What is Single Stream Recycling?
Single Stream Recycling (SSR) refers to a system combining an expanded list of household recyclables including paper fibers, plastics, metals, and other containers mixed together in one collection bin/truck.
Advantages of Single Stream Recycling:
Single Stream Recycling (SSR) is extremely efficient when done correctly and allows the participant to recycle a wide range of items which were mixed in the refuse in the past. Experiences vary but, if done properly citizens have seen their total waste go to 60% recyclables and 40% trash by volume. Recyclables can be put in one large receptacle with a lid, which means no more sorting and separating. The expanded list of recycled items means less waste at the transfer facility which cuts the towns operating cost and increases efficiency.
