Santaguida Sanitation/Ritch Refuse participates in two different methods of recycling Dual Stream Recycling and Single Stream Recycling. Each town participates in a different method of recycling to fit the towns’ needs and should be followed by the specific guidelines set fourth by your town ordinance. Proper waste separation and recycling separation isn’t just good for the environment, it’s the State and local law!
Single Stream Recycling
Single Stream Recycling (SSR) refers to a system combining an expanded list of household recyclables including paper fibers, plastics, metals, and other containers mixed together in one collection bin/truck. Single Stream Recycling (SSR) is extremely efficient when done correctly and allows the participant to recycle a wide range of items which were mixed in the refuse in the past. Experiences may vary but, if done properly citizens have seen their total waste go to 60% recyclables and 40% trash by volume. Recyclables can be put in one large receptacle with a lid, which means no more sorting and separating. The expanded list of recycled items means less waste at the transfer facility which cuts the towns operating cost and increases efficiency.

Dual Stream Recycling
Dual-Stream Recycling is a program that collects fiber products separately from other mixed commingled (glass, plastics, aluminum) recyclables. Recyclable materials other than paper are disposed of together in a mixed-recyclables container. These items are collected by your refuse hauler then sorted at your local Transfer Station then passed on to the vendor to be processed. Residents are asked to recycle glass, plastic and aluminum containers in one container and mixed paper products (office paper, newspaper, magazines direct mail, etc.) tied together in a bundle. Corrugated cardboard, fiberboard and paperboard should be broken down and tied together in a neat stack and place by the other recyclable materials.
